Design with the Exit in Mind: Documentation, Handoff, and Admin Legacy

No one talks enough about this: Someday, you won’t be the admin here.

Whether it’s growth, promotion, or moving on, the real sign of a great admin/dev isn’t just what you build—it’s what you leave behind. That’s why I document everything like I’m onboarding my replacement next week.

Here’s how I protect the org and preserve legacy:

  • Every Flow, Class, and Object has “why” context in the Description field

  • I maintain a living README in Salesforce with links to solution design docs

  • Major projects get handoff videos walking through logic, dependencies, and known caveats

We don’t build for today—we build for the person who inherits it tomorrow.

Future-proofing isn’t just technical—it’s human. Build it clean, explain it well, and the system lives on.
