Why Record Types Make Sense

Record Types aren’t just for making your org more complicated—they actually solve problems.

I had two teams using the same object in completely different ways. Instead of creating separate objects or overloading one layout, I created two record types with different picklist values and page layouts. It worked beautifully.

Key lessons:

  • Use record types to tailor layouts and picklists for specific teams or processes

  • Don’t go overboard—only use them when there’s a clear reason

  • Remember to assign record types to profiles, or users won’t see them

It took a few tries, but now I’m using record types to bring clarity instead of chaos.
